Mataram, NU Online
As an expression of deep concern following the powerful earthquakes in East Lombok and North Lombok, the  Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU) of West Nusa and other NU organizations provided humanitarian assistance for the people affected by the earthquakes in East Lombok, North Lombok, West Lombok, Mataram and Central Lombok.

This was done because of the massive impact of damage and casualties caused by the earthquakes. Second, this was part of the efforts of NU members (Nahdliyin) to ease the burden of the suffering of the people affected by the earthquakes.

Chairman of the NU Peduli (NU Cares) from the PWNU NTB, Baiq Mulyana said that starting on Saturday (11/8) according to the instructions from the Central Board of NU all humanitarian assistance activities for the earthquakes in Lombok were through the NU Peduli, whose main secretariat or post office was in PWNU Hall on Jl Pendidikan, Mataram, NTB.

"This is to facilitate both the coordination and effectiveness in distributing the assistance to earthquakes-affected victims in Lombok Island," Baiq Mulyana who is also the rector of the Nahdlatul Ulama University NTB said recently.

Furthermore Baiq Mulyana said that up to now NU Peduli had distributed aid for the earthquakes in Lombok in dozens of earthquake-affected points in the form of food packages, baby food, tarpaulins, mats, tents and other necessities.

"For public kitchens, NU Peduli has opened in Sigar Penjalin Village, North Lombok with a capacity of three meals each 2000 to 4000 rice packs per is once cooked," he said, adding that NU Peduli had also "deployed a team of doctors, paramedics and one trauma healing package so that the community could recover and rise to meet its future," he said.

He said that to date the account balance at the NU Peduli NTB was amounted to Rp274,577,875 from donations from several institutions such as Freeport, PT China Harbor Indonesia and others.

"In short, NU Peduli will be transparent and accountable in its use and reporting," he said. (Ady Supriadin/Masdar)
