After appointed as candidate of vice president Joko Widodo in 2019 president election, KH Ma’ruf Amin’s position as chair of supreme council of Nahdlatul Ulama must be discussed. As islamic mass organization, NU has regulations that banned political official or public official to be NU committees. The final decision will be discussed among mustasyar (adviser), syuriyah (supreme council) and tanfidziyah (executive council) of Nahdlatul Ulama. 

General Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama KH Said Aqil Siroj affirmed this information at press conference at Nahdlatul Ulama office, Thursday (8/9), in Jakarta. 

“We will hold joint meeting among mustasyar, syuriyah, dan tanfidziyah,” He said to respond the position of Kiai Ma'ruf Amin as chair of supreme council of Nahdlatul Ulama.

Kiai Said who is caregiver at Al-Tsaqafah islamic boarding school, Ciganjur south Jakarta conveys, as a citizen, Kiai Ma’ruf has said that he would be ready if the country needs him.

One of NU’s vice chairman H Marsudi Syuhud said, the decision will refer to organization mechanism in the statutes and bylaws of Nahdlatul Ulama.

”The mechanism has regulated in statutes and bylaws clearly. Then, we will discussed in the joint meeting,” Marsudi said.

KH Ma’ruf Amin (75), caregiver of An-Nawawi islamic boarding school, Serang Banten was appointed to be candidate of vice president, paired with Joko Widodo after meeting of coalition parties, Thursday (8/9). Other than chair of supreme council of NU, he is general chairman of Indonesia Ulama Council. (Fathoni)
