Prof Dr M Maksum Mahfoedz was officially sworn in as rector of the University of Nahdlatul Ulama (UNU) Indonesia by General Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Prof Dr KH Said Aqil Siroj here on Thursday (9/7).

This inauguration ceremony was coupled with the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the Higher Education Committee of Nahdlatul Ulama (LPTNU) and was attended by hundreds of NU universities throughout Indonesia.
Chairman of the Management Board of LPTNU, Dr KH Mujib Qulyubi said that this inauguration wass the first step among the big steps that have been carried out by the founders of UNU Indonesia towards the development process.
"Moreover, this inauguration was attended by two ministries, namely Minister of Research and Technology and Higher Education Prof M Nasir and the MORA and is a good sign in the development of UNU Indonesia in the future," said Kiai Mujib.
The former Chairman of STAINU Jakarta added that the growing process of UNU Indonesia had been conducted by a team of founders and managers so that the Jakarta's NU university could be realized with the support of various parties.
The elected rector, Prof Maksum Mahfoedz explained, he would realize the UNU Indonesia to become an outstanding university and the melting pot for the academic world, Islam, nationality, and struggle.
"If NU needs and instructs, my attitude is sami'na wa atho'na. I and my friends will manage the UNU Indonesia based on the principle of collectivity or unity by effacing the ego position," the professor of Yogyakarta's Gajah Mada University said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Research and Technology and Higher Education in his speech after the signing of the MoU with various NU universities, said that the quality of higher education was determined by the scientific productivity of the entire academic community.
"So the papers and research must constantly be done then published via journals or other supporting media," the former rector of Diponegoro University of Semarang said.
The Inauguration ceremony was also attended by Chairman of LPTNU, Dr H Noor Achmad, officials of UNU Indonesia, chairman of the Graduate Program Islam Nusantara, STAINU Jakarta, as well as the managers of NU Universities throughout the country.
UNU Indonesia also provides several scholarships, including scholarships for outstanding students and those who are from poor families and scholarships from various government agencies having cooperated with the UNU Indonesia.
Related to the university admissions, the first wave of registration is held on July 8 to August 19, 2015. While the second wave is held on 24 August to 30 September 2015. The beginning of study will be on October 7, 2015.
