In the midst of diversity, the concept of the Medina Charter in the time of Prophet Muhammad should be the inspiration to build the nation of Indonesia. The Medina Charter values are very relevant for solving various problems in the country.<>
Lecturer at the Jepara's Nahdlatul Ulama Islamic University (Unisnu) Dr Mashudi, made the remarks at a seminar held by the Indonesian Muslim Student Movement of Kudus at Bambu Wulung restaurant, Kudus on Monday (29/7).
In his presentation, Mashudi said, the Medina Charter content is very beautiful for being able to meeting different ethnics, faiths in addition to protecting minorities and emphasizing its deliberative character and so on. This concept is very likely applicable to Indonesia which consists of various religions to adress possible solid units.
"Thus, thre will be the concept of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and followers of Confucius that were strung together in the unity of the nation. This will expectedly be a very beautiful picture in this archipelago," he said.
According to Mashudi, the term of Medina Charter is very likely to occur in Indonesia. However, the concept is not so called Islamic state, but Pancasila state as formulated by the founding fathers of the beloved nation.
"In regard with the issue of the Islamic state for Indonesia it is clear that Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution and the Homeland are must values. Even so, there have still been problems so that the concept of Medina Charter can be an inspiration to build Indonesia," he said.
Mashudi who is also a lecturer of the Semarang's Walisongo High Institute for Islamic Studies was of the opinion that the emergence of terror and radical attitudes that hit most Muslims would certainly impact on Islam and Muslims. As a result, the concept of ummah that should unite, collect scattered things, move and direct at a certain noble goal would be difficult to be materialized.
