Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim saifuddin along with thousands of Indonesian pilgrims attended the NU Friendship gathering in Mahbas Jin, Makkah. This gathering was held by the NU Special Branch Board of NU Saudi Arabia.

Present at the occasion were, KH Maemoen Zubair, KH Salahuddin Wahid, KH Agoes Ali Masyhuri, a number of NU board members. In front of thousands of Nahdliyyin, the minister reiterated the NU commitment and contribution to the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia.

"NU as religious social organization is known to have the greatest commitment to the existence of the NKRI because of its teachings," the minister said here on Tuesday (29/08).

In the midst of increasingly fierce competition, the minister added the teachings propagated by NU founding fathers were very relevant as a foundation in building the civilization of the nation and the world.

"The value that our predecessors have taught is increasingly relevant. The teachings of tasamuh, tawasuth, tawazun, and i'tidal are increasingly needed," he explained.

On this stand, the minister called on Nahdliyin to continue to actively spread Islam littered fully with wisdom values. According to him, in spreading the values of NU, Nahdliyyin should not be tempted to take action that is exactly contrary to the values themselves. (Abdullah Alawi/Masdar)
