The central board of Nahdlatul Ulama launched a series of the Santri Day celebration 2018 at PBNU Building, Jakarta on Wednesday (9/12) entitled Santri dedication to the independent Indonesia.

Attend at the launching was general chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama KH Said Aqil Siroj, secretary of supreme council KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, chairman of NU Marsudi Syuhud and Robikin Emhas, secretary general of Nahdlatul Ulama Helmy Faishal Zaini, and secretary of the Association of Islamic mass organization friendship Luthfi At-Tamimi.

According to Kiai Said, the theme of independence was taken this year with expectation to be shared vision to serve the nation, build sovereignity, justice, and prosperity of Indonesia continueusly, and put Indonesia as a lighthouse of the world civilization.

He added, Santri Day was not only for santri, but for all people who characterize santri. Character, according to him, is people who have good character, good speaking, and love the homeland.

Love of the homeland has proved throughout history until now. “If there was not fatwa from KH Hasyim Asy’ari, the spirit of struggle would not fierly such as that historical moment (November, 10),” he said.

At this occasion, he reminded us to grateful to Allah for the recognition from Joko Widodo’s government for the struggle of santri. 

The chief of organizing commitee of Santri Day 2018 Marsudi Syuhud said there were various activities, from competitions, reciting shalawat, praying together, till nation ceremony. 

The activities was done before until the peak of Santri Day anniversary 2018, namely October 22. The celebration was planned to be finished till on November 10. (Abdullah Alawi)
