Over the last few years, radical movements and terrorism in the name of religion in Indonesia have increasingly remained prevalent and worrying. This phenomenon became a serious conversation between the country's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
General chairman of NU KH Said Aqil Siroj (Kang Said) held a meeting with the Head of BIN Budi Gunawan at his residence Jakarta, Tuesday (21/3) morning.
On that occasion, Kang Said and Budi Gunawan discussed a number of issues including the role of Islamic society organizations in counteracting the growing radicalism.
Besides NU, there were also the leaders of some Islamic organizations prsent at the meeting such as Al-Irsyad, Al-Wasliyah, Unity of Islam (PUI), Chinese Islamic Association of Indonesia (PITI), the Association of Indonesian Preachers, and so on.
As firmly asserted by the prominent ulema (Muslim scholars) of Nahdlatul Ulama in Rembang Central Java recently that the Nahdliyin-based organization was always committed to upholding Pancasila and the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and is inseparable from the presence of the NKRI itself.
Nahdlatul Ulama calls on all Muslims and Indonesian people to always prioritize the maintenance of the nation by maintaining moderate and prudent attitudes in responding to various problems. Tolerance, democracy and the realization of so-called akhlakul karimah in all sectors of life must always be pursued not only for the safety and harmony of the nation, the state and society in Indonesia alone, but also as an inspiration to the world towards a possible solution in dealing with the problems of civilization facing the nation nowadays.
