The Indonesia's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) is committed to continuing to monitor and advise the House and the government in the process towards the ratification of Law No 13/2008 on Hajj Management.<>
Such commitment was raised at the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) taking the theme "The implementation of Ideal and Efficient Haj Pilgrimage" at the NU headquarters, Jln. Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta on Monday (14/9).

The results of the discussion will be recorded as an academic paper which could be considered by the policy makers engaged in the proposed law.

"I will personally oversee this academic paper later to be marketed to the mainstream factions," said Helmy Faisal Zaini, the Secretary General of NU.

Present at the forum were, among others, Achmad Djunaidi, former Head of Planning of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) and former Managing Director of the Hajj Fund of the Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah Management (PHU); Ahmad Kartono, former Director of Hajj and Umrah of the Directorate General of PHU Kemenag; chairmen of NU such as H Marsudi Syuhud, H Suryaman Eman, H Andy Najmi, and H Abdul Manan A Ghani. The forum was also attended by representatives of NU institutions.

According to Helmy, the discussion will be held thematically. In addition to taking into account the efficiency, NU will also focus more on the relevance of Hajj managed by the private sectors, and others, saying the NU ideas would have a significant value.

"We must be optimistic that what we do will bring hajj management improvements in the future," he said. (masdar)
