The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) held a public dialogue, Thursday (31/10), to take up issues on the final voters' list (DPT) following the delayed announcement of the voters list which was expectedly announced on October 23, 2013, as well as the findings of some 14 million problematic voters' lists.<>
The Dialogue held in the NU main auditorium was attended by the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Husni Kamil Malik, Member of the Election Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu) Daniel Zuhron, Director General for Population and Civil Registry at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Ministry) Irman, Deputy Chairman of the House's Commission II Arif Wibowo, and Coordinator of JPPR M. Afifuddin.
Deputy General Chairman of NU KH. As'ad Said Ali said in his introductory speech, the dialog was held due to the public complaints related to vulnerabality in the upcoming 2014 elections, especially related to the DPT and the counting of votes.
"The forum will be no match for the House of Representatives. NU is a large house accommodating all (aspirations)," As'ad said.
He said that the use of the right to vote "is the most basic form of participation in the system of representative democracy that is being developed."
"So we have to watch out for the possible loss of rights and opportunities for the citizens to use their voting rights due to inaccurate voter lists," said As'ad.
He said the KPU, Bawaslu and the Ministry of Home Affairs should involve civil society stakeholders.
"The involvement of the various stakeholders is essential to ensure that the 2014 elections are indeed shared celebrations to produce a quality elections," he added
