East Java chapter of Nahdlatul Ulama will hold a large event to commemorate the NU 93rd anniversary while declaring June 1 as the birth of Pancasila, Saturday (30/4). The meeting centered at the Pandaan Candrawilwatikta, Pasuruan will be attended by Gneral Chairman of NU KH Said Aqil Siroj (Kang Said) and former Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
"NU has already carried out academic studies in determining the June 1 as the birth of Pancasila and will be proposed to the government, together with the big event," chairman of NU Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) told NU Online here Friday (29/4).
The Vice Governor of East Java stated that currently there was only the Sacred Pancasila Day, while the birth of Pancasila had not yet been studied academically and academic texts collected by the Indonesia's largest muslim organization were considerably eligible enough to propose the June 1 date as the Birth of Pancasila.
In various academic texts, he said, NU considered that the Sukarno's speech on June 1, 1945 was an undeniable and unforgettable historical fact, adding that the proposed June 1 date was to commemorate the birth of Pancasila asn the state ideology.
The academic fact, continued Gus Ipul, would be read by NU board members in front of Megawati Soekarnoputri and be witnessed by some 10 thousand NU followers (Nahdliyin) and a number of representatives of civil society organizations.
"Pancasila is able to bring peace in the midst of Indonesian people from different ethnics, religions and interests," Gus Ipul said, adding in the much-awaited gathering Pancasila would once again be declared as the state ideology that inspired the world in the era of globalization.
Secretary of the Regional Prepresentatives Council of PDI-P East Java Sri Untari Chairman confirmed that the chairwoman of PDI-P Megawati would attend the large rally and the would-be day of birth of Pancasila.
"Mrs Mega is invited in her capacity as the 5th president of RI and the daughter of the digger of the birth of Pancasila on June 1, Sukarno," she said. (Masdar)
