NU: Political parties fail to give people political education

Instead of strengthening democratic ideas and values in the country, political parties have so far failed to support and give political education to the people. <>
General Chiarman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama KH Said Aqil Siroj (Kang Said) made the remarks at a press conference related to the thoughtful end-of-year reflection in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/1).
He said, political parties should provide an example to the people as a democratic and mature organization. While most political parties in Indonesia, showed their poor performance in playing political roles that are ideal for society.
According to Kang Said, people consider political parties are busy in thinking their own parties. Even there have been some political party members using political vehicles for their own interests.
The failure of political parties in terms of political education could be seen from their failure in dealing with the process of recruiting cadres having capability, vision and clear political idealism, he added.
Kang Said was of view, the political party cadres have not yet contributed to creating a climate of national politics that is highly clear and clean from any corruption case. They could not be expected as political actors capable of bringing the public goodness.
He said, if the political parties did not immediately improve themselves, "people are not impossible to lose confidence in them. In addition, the public will again be harmed those who have mature behaviors instead of being able to increase national improvement in accordance with the 1945 Constitution.
