A number of NU young communities in Jakarta and surrounding areas will actively hold a once-every-three weeks meeting to discuss various issues and thoughts about NU, Islamic, and Indonesianess.<>

On Sunday (28/4), the cross-community forum was held in Ciganjur Islamic boarding school (pesantren), Ciganjur, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.

The forum is part of the NU youth for having commitment to preserving the NU thoughts in contributing to the nation.

The communities were, among others, the Center for Pesantren Development (PSPP), the Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (PMII), Saung community, Nahdlatul Ulama High Institute for Islamic Studies of Jakarta, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta, and so on.

The Ciganjur's meeting took up a theme "Turath wa Tajdid" written by Hassan Hanafi, the Egyptian philosopher showing an interest in exploring both Islamic philosophic traditions and Western philosophy and in developing relationships between these cultural heritages that have sometimes clashed.

One of the initiators of the scholarly meeting, Syaiful Arif, said that "this forum has become a bridge of possible communication between community networks of young people who still care about the future of NU thinking and struggle.

"It could be said that NU is currently stagnant, especially in terms of the production of thought. That's why we want to build an open exchange of ideas for strengthening the role of NU in the future," he said.
