P3M: Nahdliyin yet to manage mosque properly

The Pesantren and Community Development Association (P3M) has called for the importance of Nahdliyin (NU followers) to pay more attention to mosques having not yet been managed properly.<>

"We've become too complacent with the situation that we are the majority, but we have not yet managed the mosques properly," the P3M director, Anas Saidi who is also researcher of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), on the sidelines of a meeting in Pesantren Al-Muhsin, Krapyak Wetan-Sewon, Bantul, Wednesday (13/3 ).

In fact, Anas continued, the mosque could be a better location if it is well managed, disciplined and istiqamah (consistency).

Meanwhile, the supreme council of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Masdar Mas'udi said that developing the ummah (people) should be started from the mosque.

"If we want to build people, start from the mosque. The mosque is the portrait of Muslims. If you want to know how the Muslims condition, take a look at the mosque," he said.

"In order to welcome the 1st century of NU in 1926 ahead, NU should rest on two legs, the mosques and Islamic schools. Pesantren as cultural and scientific references, while the mosques as structural activity references," Kiai Masdar said.
