The spirit of nationalism inherited by the NU ulama (Muslim scholars) is based on sincerity to love the homeland. So for the Nahdliyin (NU members) they need no arguments, because the spirit of nationalism is already embedded and inherent in each NU member.
Secretary General of NU HA Helmy Faishal Zaini made the remarks in a seminar held at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University Auditorium, Yogyakarta, Tuesday (31/10).
The man born in Cirebon said that the form of the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia which is muahadah wathaniyah (national consensus) is final. So we no longer need to debate again about the form of the state.
"The concept of our country is ideal in the context of embracing the community pluralism as confirmed in the NU decision in the Situbondo's Congress, Pancasila is the ideal basis for bridging and accommodating the so-called diversity," Helmy said.
In relation to the challenges and spirit of young nationalism today, Helmy called for the importance of transforming the messages of nationalism in a creative form through social media, for instance.
"The number of social media users in Indonesia is quite a lot, so it needs to be emphasized and thought out to make the movement and the formulation of campaigns of nationalism messages through the means referred to as social media. This is very important as a form of response of the times," said Helmy.
Present also at the occasion were Sri Yunanto (author of the book), Muhammad Chirzin and Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Prof. KH Yudian Wahyudi. (Masdar)
