NU's Senior Cleric Yusuf Hasyim Buried In Military Funeral Ceremony

KH Yusuf Hasyim, a son of Nahdlatul Ulama founder KH Hasyim Asy’ari, was buried in a military funeral ceremony at 10.22 am on Monday in the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School’s cemetery compound.
"He was buried in a military funeral ceremony as he was a member of the Indonesian Veteran Legion (LVRI) with the last position of first lieutenant," Chairman of the East Java’s chapter of LVRI H Ghufron Na’am said.

Yusuf, who is also known as Pak Ud passed away on Sunday after suffering from lung inflammation. He was 77 years old.
Tens of ulemas and thousands of people flocked to Tebuireng Islamic boarding school in Jombang, East Java, on Monday, to pay last tribute to KH Yusuf Hasyim, The ulemas included KH Abdullah Faqih, KH Nurul Huda Djazuli, KH Ali Masyhuri and KH Hasyim Muzadi.
Born on August 3, 1929 in Jombang, KH Yusuf Hasyim, popularly known as Pak Ud, died of pneumonia at dr Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya at 06.40 pm on Sunday. He was admitted to the hospital on Jan 2, 2007. (ant/mad)
