In a hadith narrated by Abu Dawud mentioned, Abdurrahman bin Auf is one of the ten companions of Prophet Muhammad who is guaranteed in to heaven.
The full name of Abdurrahman bin Auf bin Abd Auf bin Abd al-Harith bin Zuhroh bin Kilab al-Quraish al-Zuhri, told that he had popularly been called abdul ka’bah before converting to Islam and there were also some calling him Abd Amr. After converting to Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) changed his name to Abdurrahman.
He is known as the companion of the Prophet Muhammad who is richest and most generous. Quoted a reliable source Abdurrahman donated two hundred gold so-called uqiyah to supply logistical needs at the time of the Tabuk war. Another time, Abdurrahman also donated half his treasure (two thousand dinars) when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) calling on Muslims to give alms (infaq) for the sake of Allah.
It is reported that Abdurrahman bin Auf also gave compensation to the veterans of Badr war amounted to a hundred men and each received some four hundred dinar.
Abdurrahman bin Auf also served to guarantee the welfare and the family needs of the wives of the Prophet (ummahatul mukminin) after his death. Including taking care of safety and providing escort whenever they went around. And there have been still many stories about the Abdurrahman's generosity.
In addition, Abdurrahman bin Auf was also a tough warrior.
In some wars in which Muslims engaged in, not only did he provide material assistance but also his energy as such a human shield. In fact, arguably
Abdurrahman always took part in
any war along with Prophet
Muhammad.
At the time of Uhud war, Abdurrahman's entire body was hit by
twenty-one wounds. Two of his serial teeth were dated and his legs were
hobbled. While at the time of Badr war, Abdurrahman managed to kill the enemies
of Islam, including Umar bin Uthman ibn Ka'ab at-Taimy.
Abdurrahman bin Auf is a companion struggling for the sake of Allah with his property and his life for the triumpth of Islam. At least, there are two lessons that can be taken from Abdurrahman bin Auf. First, Abdurrahman's generosity. He is the richest companion in addition to making his fortune to support the flourishing of Islam.
In short, Abdurrahman is a zahid. He is not dazzled with worldly goods. When he would die, Abdurrahman burst into tears 'mourning' his possessions. He called Mus'ab bin Umair and Hamzah bin Abdul Muttalib were better than himself because both died without leaving anything.<
