The rector of Ez-Zitounah University Tunisia Sheikh Hichem Grissa agreed with the ideas of so-called Islam Nusantara. He made the statements on the sidelines of a meeting with General Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Said Aqil Siroj.
"Witness, (my fellow) brothers and sisters, that we agree (with Islam Nusantara)," Sheikh Hichem said at NU headquarters, Jalan Kramat Raya 164, Jakarta, Monday (1/21).
On that occasion, Sheikh Hichem also said that tolerance in Arabia and outside of Arabia was absolutely different.
According to him, tolerance outside of Arabia, especially in Indonesia, is real tolerance.
"Tolerance outside of Arabia is pure tolerance, while in our country, in Arabia itself, tolerance sometimes exists, sometimes it also disappears," he said.
Previously, Kiai Said said that the Islam Nusantara was an Islam with a form of Islam that existed in the archipelago, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and others.
"Islam with the Nusantara format is the one that fights against extremism," said the leader of Al-Tsaqafah Islamic Boarding School, Ciganjur, South Jakarta.
In the meeting, Kiai Said explained, there were many archipelago scholars who were popular in Arabia. Syekh Nawawi, for example, compiled the book Tafsir Munir, Nihayatuz Zain, Syarh Fath al-Muin, and others.
He also mentioned the names of Sheikh Ihsan Kediri writing Sirahit Thalibin Syarh Minhajul Abidin, Sheikh Mahfudz At-Turmusi writing the Manhaj Dzawin Nadhar, KH Sahal Mahfudz writing Thariqatul Hushul Syarh Ghayatul Wushul, and so on.
"Al-Bantani is in Java, At-Turmusi is in Java, Al-Qodiri is Kediri, East Java," Kiai Said explained.
Kiai Said also explained that the books were written in Arabic. Hearing this, Sheikh Hichem asked his students who were present at the meeting to bring the works of the archipelago ulama. (Syakir NF / Masdar)
