Gus Dur in the eyes of ambassadors of friendly countries

A number of ambassadors from friendly countries conveyed their testimonies through video shows in the 12th Haul of KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), on Thursday (30/12/2021). They are the ambassadors of such countries as the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Morocco, Egypt, and Bahrain.
The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia H.E. Abdulla Salem Al-Dhaheri said that Gus Dur was a world cleric who consistently fought for peace, tolerance, and friendly Islam.
"I am proud of Gus Dur's ideas and thoughts about tolerant and moderate Islam, where these ideas have the same spirit as the moderate values promoted by the people of the United Arab Emirates. We need religious leaders who can share their stories with the world that Islam is a religion of peace and upholds human values," he said.
Then the Jordanian Ambassador to Indonesia Abdullah Sulaiman Abu Rohman considered Gus Dur as a great leader of the Indonesian nation who always presented the ideas of moderate Islam everywhere.
"President KH Abdurrahman Wahid is a good friend to Arab countries. He studied Arabic language and culture at Al-Azhar University. He is one of the scholars we are proud of, we always pray for the peace of the soul of the deceased, and always pray for his family to be given ease, and always in his message and mission," he said.
Furthermore, the Moroccan Ambassador Ouadia Benabdillah said that he witnessed the great love of the public for Gus Dur. Gus Dur is loved as a teacher of the nation, a humanist religious figure who consistently fights for democracy.
"Gus Dur's thoughts in various fields, such as politics, social, state, and religion are important references for the Indonesian people. Indonesia should be proud to have a great figure like Gus Dur," he said.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia Ashraf Abdullah Sultan said that Gus Dur was an outstanding example in strengthening diplomatic relations between Egypt and Indonesia.
"He is a great Indonesian leader, and an observer of Egyptian art and literature. Today I am happy to participate in the haul to commemorate him," he said.
Finally, the Bahraini Ambassador to Indonesia, Ahmed Abdulla Ahmed Al-Harmasi Al-Hajeri, extended his warm regards to the entire extended family of KH Abdurrahman Wahid, and brothers and sisters in the Republic of Indonesia. "I express my deepest condolences and sympathy for the commemoration of the deceased's haul," he concluded.
