Member of the Advisory Board (Mustasyar) of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Jusuf Kalla has urged the universities to contribute more to the development of technology for the future of nation in Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Solo, Central Java.
"The challenges faced by the nation will have many dimensions in the future. For example, in our daily life, we always come across various challenges related to food, energy, population, and employment," he stated at the 42nd UNS Anniversary event here on Monday.
Kalla who is also the Vice President noted that the total population in Indonesia has reached 290 million people, and it will increase to around 390 million people in 2045.
"The country must provide a solution to fulfill the food needs of the population as more land limitations occur every day. The solution to this is technology. We require huge technology change to create energy," he remarked.
Meanwhile, it is predicted that there will be no energy for mankind in the next 20 or 30 years. Besides, environmental condition is also a factor for this phenomenon.
"In the future, energy will be the most important factor for mankind, without which, we will left behind," he added.
The university graduates are expected to contribute their skills to fulfill the needs of the nation in the future.
Kalla emphasized the importance of "entrepreneurship." He expressed hope that UNS could enhance more researches and could establish strong cooperation with entrepreneurs.
In Kalla`s opinion, they will add value to the nation, along with the development of technology and entrepreneurship. (Antara/Masdar)
