The chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) H Erman Suryaman reiterated the NU commitment of maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and the Pancasila.
Erman made the statement at a religious gathering hled by Nahdlatul Ulama Legal Aid Institute (LPBHNU) at the Kudus Square on Sunday (07/04), adding that Nahdliyin must base their lines of thought and religious practices on the teachings of Aswaja having long been preserved and maintained by the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization.
"We offer prayers that the NKRI would remain intact, NU upholds the NKRI, NU upholds the Pancasila until the end of time. Because Kudus is the city of ulama (Muslim scholars) and kiai (clerics), let us follow them and NU, God willing, we will be safe," he said.
On that occasion Erman also conveyed his plan to build 3-5 NU cooperatives to realize the people's economic welfare, adding the management would later be harmonized with local government programs and be based on digital technologies.
"We will continue to strive for this people economy to achieve welfare," he said.
Meanwhile, deputy secretary of the advisory board of NU KH Ainul Yaqin said that Nahdliyin must be selective in choosing leaders and representatives in the April 17 elections ahead.
He appealed to the public to choose leaders who clearly defend the Pancasila, NKRI and Nahdlatul Ulama. "Never choose leaders who like considering NU heretical," he said. (Adib / Masdar)
