The Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Disaster and Climate Management Agency in collaboration with Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) launched the so-called Ngaji Plastik program. The activity aims to provide understanding in controlling plastic waste.
According to the deputy secretary general of NU, Andi Najmi the labelling of ‘ngaji’ term is important as it targeted santri. The program will be part of routine activities in the Islamic Boarding Schools (pesantren).
“Ngaji means learning at Islamic boarding schools. This program is expected to be a habit of santri, as well as applying a reduction in using plastic,” Andi was quoted by republika.co.id as saying hre eon Friday (26/10).
Meanwhile, LPBI PBNY Nusantara Waste Bank Director, Fitri Aryani said the program would invite pesantren, ngaji community, and LPBU NU throughout Indonesia members as participants.
In Ngaji Plastik activity, participants will be taught techniques to make ecobrics. The first step is, the plastic waste is cut into pieces, then put into a used bottle which is also in the form of garbage.
"We want to reduce the consumption of plastic, which is to make wise children when choosing foods, which don’t produce waste. Then, this activity can invite wise behavior in managing the plastic produced, not directly making products,” Fitri said. (Masdar)
