The General Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) KH Said Aqil Siroj appealed to Nahdliyin throughout Indonesia and the world to sacrifice (kurban) on Eid al-Adha 10 Dzulhijjah 1442 H, which will coincide on July 20, 2021. The sacrifice, said Kiai Said, signifies that Islam is a social and humanitarian religion.
"I appeal to all Muslims, especially NU members who can make sacrifices, should be from awareness of his heart and with sincere intentions, lillahita'ala in order to broadcast Eid al-Adha. (For) those who can afford cows, go ahead, goats, buffalo, all of them are welcome," explained Kiai Said, quoted by NU Online from the NU Care-LAZISNU Youtube Channel, Monday (12/7).
He explained that kurban is a part of social worship that is prescribed for Muslims. Kiai Said then mentioned several other social services such as zakat, among them are zakat fitrah, zira'ah, tijarah, gold jewelry. Then there are also vows, fidyah, dams, and thanksgiving.
"Those are all called maliyah worship or property worship that shows Islam (as) a social religion. Religion that cares about togetherness, respects togetherness, mutual cooperation. Islam is the religion of tamaddun, the religion of society, the religion of civilization, the religion of culture, the religion of progress, mutual cooperation, justice, humanity," he said.
To Nahdliyin (NU members) or financially capable Muslims, Kiai Said again appealed and invited to compete in sacrificing as much as possible without being limited.
"Let's compete to sacrifice as much as possible. No need to be limited (like) seven people for one cow. No. One person (one) cow, please, if you can. Hopefully, we will get the reward later in the afterlife when we return to Allah," said Kiai Said.
