As an effort to maintain the the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), one of the the most important things that must be done continuously is how to strengthen such brotherhoods as so-called islamiyah, wathoniyah, and insaniyah. The three are the foundation to keep upholding and maintaining the NKRI.
The supreme leader (Rais Aam) of the country's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH MA'ruf Amin, popularly known as Kiai Ma'ruf, made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting to commemorate his 75th anniversary at Muamalat Tower, Jakarta, on Monday (12/3).
Kiai Ma'ruf called for the importance of maintaining the three brotherhoods as part of encouraging the economy of the people.
"People must be economically empowered. Through a wide range of creative and innovative breakthroughs, we must continue to work to make people empowered economically. This is our common task," Kiai Ma'ruf said.
The meeting was also coincided with the launch of his biography written by Anif Punto Utomo, depicting Kiai Ma'ruf as an influential individual who has high concern on national issues, especially Islamic economics. Brilliant and solutive attitudes and decisions are often made by Kiai Ma'ruf.
KH Nasaruddin Umar attending the event said that the figure of Kiai Ma'ruf was a person always paying his attention to the national issues.
"We learned a lot from Kiai Ma'ruf. The figure that is always focus and is comiitted to thinking the national issues," he said. (Kendi Setiawan/Masdar)
