The 5th National Meeting (Munas) of the Alumni Association of Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (IKA-PMII) in Jakarta, Tuesday (2/7), named Arief Mudatsir Mandar as General Chairman of the IKA-PMII for the period 2013 to 2018.<>
Arief was elected for a second time following a one-round direct election process at a plenary session led by chairman of the Central Board of NU H Arvin Hakim Thoha. Voting results showed Arief could secure 71 of 130 valid votes.
Besides Arief, the plenary session also nominated seven candidates such as Andi Jamaro (50 votes), Amsar Dulmanan (3 votes), Ali Masykur Musa (2 votes), Suryadharma Ali (1 vote), As'ad Said Ali (1 vote), Muhaimin Iskandar (1 vote), and Pantas Tarigan (1 vote).
In his speech, Arief asserted that his position in the organization was a mandate that must fully be implemented.
"As I once said, this is the period of cosolidating ideas, strengthening communication and networks, as well as implementing concrete programs," he said.
According to him, his 2008-2013 period constituted the period of internal consolidation. He convinced, IKA-PMII could be the leading actor among other alumni organizations. However, Arief called on all parties to support his leadership in moving the organization.
"I am just (a man called) Arief. Without the support from my fellow friends, board members in branch and regional levels, and seniors, I think I could not run the (organization) programs," he said.
The structure of the IKA PMII management was set out by a team consisting of the elect chairman Arief Mudasir, secretary general of IKA-PMII Effendy Choirie, and five representatives from regional boards of IKA PMII such as South Sulawesi, East Java, North Sumatra, Lampung, and East Kalimantan.
