The Special Branch Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCINU) of Germany expressed its support for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to solve various cases of corruption in Indonesia.<>

The support is related to many obstacles facing the Commission. The last case is about the dispute between the KPK and the police.

"The tendency of the attack, both closed and open has been done by the police," said chairman of German PCINU Suratno in a press release sent to NU Online on Sunday (7/10).

The PCINU urged President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to take firm measures and be pro-active to stop the arrogance of the police that is under his command, in addition to doing a massive overhaul of the Police.

"(We do) demand the chief of the Indonesian National Police Timur Pradopo to resign from office for, consciously or unconsciously, disregarding the police intervention against the KPK tasks and not fully supporting by withdrawing police interrogators in the Commission when they are investigating one of the top police officers."

The PCINU also urged the members of parliament, political leaders and community organizations nationwide in order to give full support to the Commission to be free from any intervention and police arrogance.

It also called on civil society organizations to expectedly always establish synergy in monitoring, guarding and specifically criticizing the cases handled by the KPK as well as providing ongoing support for any efforts made by the Commission.

Tension between the KPK and the National Police increased following the commission's investigation into a driving simulator procurement case at the National Police Traffic Corps, which implicates its former chief, Insp. Gen. Djoko Susilo.

Although the KPK began to investigate, the police subsequently insisted on conducting their own investigation.
