Jakarta, NU Online
The Nahdlatul Ulama Special Branch (PCI NU) of the Netherlands held an international conference. This conference will be held online. The conference aims to be a platform that brings together academics, researchers, and activists in discussing ideas that are relevant to the main theme of the conference Reimagining Religion in Iime of Crisis.
"The conference with an online format will be held from Monday, August 23 to Friday August 27, 2021. Meanwhile, face-to-face meetings, God willing, will be held in 2022," Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, Adrian Perkasa said.
In this online conference, he said, the Dutch PCINU collaborated with the International Convention of Asia Scholar (ICAS)–IIAS Leiden University, which is one of the prestigious academic forums for researchers related to studies in Asia, including Indonesia.
"Hopefully, the collaboration with this institution could become an arena for researchers, especially Indonesians, to be able to contribute to the development of world-class sciences," Adrian explained.
There are six panels in this conference, namely Religion in socio-ecological and economic crisis; Religion in politics and law: how to reactualise religion in facing the crisis of democracy; Reharmonizing religion in Science, Progress and Innovation; Religion, Gender role and Women's Right; Millennials, pop culture and the future of religion; Hurgronje and Islam in Indonesia: between legacy and controversy?
"The opening of the conference will be held on August 23 by presenting NU scholar Ulil Abshar Abdalla as a keynote speaker. In addition, the NU Katib Aam of Syuriyah KH Yahya Cholil Staquf will present his remarks as well as briefing on the topic of contextualizing the crisis in global Islam moderate movements," added Ahmad Afnan Anshori, Chairman of the Dutch PCINU.
The opening of this conference is open to the public. It is planned that the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands will attend along with several scholars and interfaith leaders in the Netherlands.
"We hope that this conference will not only contribute to the world of science, but also bring wider benefits to the development of Islam Nusantara in the global arena," Afnan concluded.
