The international community has, again and again, recognized the role played by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization for its consistency in maintaining religious harmony in Indonesia and abroad.<>

Due to its important role, a world peace organization, the Global Peace Foundation, granted the Global Peace Awards in the fields of Interfaith Leadership, to the religious social organization in Asuncion, Paraguay, South America, Saturday (22/11).

"The World Peace Convention began on 19 (November) and was closed yesterday, and its peak today is for giving awards. Alhamdulillah, NU this year is the global peace award recipient," said the Secretary General of NU, H. Marsudi Syuhud, representing NU in the Saturday's awards ceremony.

Marsudi explained the Global Peace Foundation had formerly made some criteria for the this year's peace awards taking the theme  "One Family under God".

He said those involved in the peace awards were, among others, leading innovators, governments, institutions, civil society organizations, academia, and interfaith communities, which have worked in improving the lives of people or other groups, and really contributed to world peace.

The winners, said Marsudi, were also judged to have demonstrated their integrity in life and service, and provided examples of the recognition of diversity in social life.

"NU is considered to have demonstrated outstanding efforts in promoting interfaith cooperation, humanitarian, as well as service and peace. This award is certainly must be appreciated, because here NU is the representative of Indonesia," Marsudi said.

While in the peace convention, Marsudi delivered a speech titled "Leadership in the Promotion of Liberty, Prosperity and Integrity".

"This speech conveys the importance of moral leadership. This is an important topic, not only for Muslim countries in Asia, but also other countries in the world," he said.

Marsudi explained that human could not be separated from moral leadership in support of freedom, prosperity, and integrity, because it is part of the Indonesian dignity and system that have successfully helped build a civilization.

"It was like when we will go to a destination, which is the point of success in the world and the hereafter (sa'adah fiddunya wal akhirat), ways and paths to achieve this is by using the freedom, prosperity, and integrity implemented by leaders who are controlled by a moral system," Marsudi added.
