More than 1.5 million people participated in the three-day-long Eid Al-Fitr celebrations in Riyadh. The city’s municipality arranged 53 locations where more than 200 artistic and amusement events were presented. Some events were exclusively for children and families.<>

A number of venues, such as the newly added Al-Khadra Lounges at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex and the Ibn Khaldoun School for girls in Arqa, were air-conditioned.

Popular events in the Eid festival included stand-up comedy and heritage and folklore programs apart from challenging and thrilling competitions and maneuvers of remote controlled planes.

The municipality set up six locations for families and seven exclusive locations for women and children, which were supervised by women alone.

As reported by arabnews.com, eight drama events meant for men and youths were presented with the participation of Saudi and Gulf singers and actors. Another four events were presented on the stages allocated for women and children, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

The people with special needs also participated in large numbers in the festivities, because they were given special consideration.

The General Organization for Grain Silos and Flour Mills, the Disabled Children’s Association, and Prince Salman Social Center provided special arrangements to enable the physically challenged people to participate in these events.

Another feature of the festivals was that teams of actors, singers and sports and media personalities visited inpatients in various hospitals in the city to share the joy of the Eid festival with them.

The municipality also ensured that people could reach the various festival venues easily by giving detailed directions on its Internet site.
