Gus Dur’s tomb is blanketed red and white flower

The 73th Indonesia independent day is commemorated differently in the tomb of KH Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid at Tebuireng islamic boarding school, Jombang east Java. The tomb of the 4th Indonesian president likes Indonesia flag, red and white.

One of Tebuireng official, Teuku Azwani says, the scene is not like before. Although, the tomb of grandchilden of Grandsyekh KH Hasyim Asy’ari is alwasy sprinkled by flowers from pilgrims, but in this special day, there are only two colours, red and white. 

“Gus Dur tomb sprinkled by unusual flowers like days befores because the colour only two, namely colour of Indonesia flag,” he said, Thursday (8/16).

Further, he explained, the sprinkled flower was done by santri Tebuireng, intentionally to honor the 73th Indonesia independent day. The flowers are very neat that they attract public attention. 

According to him, this is natural for santri to express their honor to the guru in the form of springking red and white flower at Indonesia independent day commemoration. Especially to the guru who is being important part of Indonesian independence, in their era.

“They honored ulema who is strunggle filling independence of Indonesia with some valuable actions so that Indonesian people enjoy their blessing,” he explained. (Syamsul Arifin/Muiz)
