Vice secretary of the central board of Nahdlatul Ulama Masduki Baidlawi said, when NU decided to back to the Khittah 1926 or to be independent as mass organization, not related to political party, many temptations were coming, especially practical politics.

As islamic mass organization with the largest followers in Indonesia, many politicians and political parties scramble to get sympathy and support from NU. Therefore, khittah must be maintained, even strenghtened in order not to fall into practical politics.

“Since long time ago, when NU in Khittah position, we always to be scramble political party,” He said to NU Online, Tuesday (7/8).

He said, in the leadership of KH Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur, after NU was back to khittah, temptation to practical politics so strong and heavy.

“As the general chairman, I (Gus Dur) sat under the banyan tree (Golkar), the plan was to pray facing Ka’bah (PPP), suddenly beaten by a bull (PDI),” He said imitating Gus Dur to describe how big the temptation of practial politics for NU that time.

He said, Khittah NU 1926 born in the New Order regime where freedom was limited. NU was banned to enter in the political areas because NU has many followersin the grass root.

“Then, NU read and formulate Khittah 1926,” He Said.

By Khittah NU 1926, he continued, KH Abdurrahman Wahid (general chairman) and KH Achmad Siddiq (chief adviser) sucessed to create NU as civil society that counted in represive era of the New Order. In other side, NU has educated Nahdliyin in the political aspects.

“If we read Khittah NU in many contexts, in the New Order, Reform, or recent views, so we must read is a relation between NU and state,” He said.

Gus Dur, Masduki said, run Khittah in different ways when Reform eras came. The era that gives freedom and openess. He established political party as subordinate of NU to transform education, political, and economic aspects. 

“In this contexts, until now the vision and mission when the party established failed because party that must be subordinate or instruments of NU, not the other way,” He said.

“NU must has strategies related to NU and state relation. Vision and mission NU is how to transform Indonesia citizen in education and economic,” He said. 

Religious and nation view

Masduki said, other aspects in the Khittah NU 1926 that is very important is how to maintain and sharpen religious view from transnational ideology threat that want to change principles and form of Indonesia. 

“How NU is being guard of state in the nation and views,” He said. 

In this contexts, he added, NU has to innovate to develop dakwa according to the era. Strategies and methods must be developed without leaving old ones. 

Recenlty, th world is in the internet and digital era. Community, especially millenial generations, get most of their information source from internet. This is new field NU in the mission.

“How dakwa to millenial generations, we must reach them. This is also important challenge. This is a real thing that must be solved than other problem in the khittah contexts. (Muchlishon)
