Jakarta, NU Online
State-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indonesia’s largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to support the company’s fuel distribution network alongside the government’s “one fuel price policy” across the archipelago.

Pertamina president director Dwi Soetjipto asked Nahdliyin (NU followers) to open fuel sale distribution points, especially in remote areas. Locals in remote areas usually buy fuel from small retail sellers who sell it at much higher prices, meaning that more official distributors are needed.

“To fulfill the one fuel price policy, we need strong distribution channels. This fits with the existence of NU followers all over Indonesia,” he was quoted by The Jakarta Post as saying after the MoU signing ceremony at the headquarters of NU in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Pertamina fuel marketing vice president Afandi said the MoU could be expanded to other partnerships such as the development of Pertamina facilities and the utilization of old wells.

"Fuel distribution is just one aspect. We will expand it to the other areas," Afandi said.

NU chairman KH Said Aqil Siroj said that NU had around 91.2 million followers in 2013, representing 36.5 percent of Indonesia’s 250 million population. (Masdar)
