Lamongan, NU Online
Both punching and ticking are common in general elections. But, There was something unusual in Matholi'ul Anwar Islamic Senior High School, Simo, Karanggeneng, Lamongan, East Java. <>
The educational institution established under the auspices of the Maarif NU Institute of Education held school elections with the E-Voting system in selecting chairmen and vice chairmen of the Intra-School Student Organization, Nahldlatul Ulama Student Association (IPNU-IPPNU), and the Scout Board of Shelves.
Interestingly, the E-Voting application program is prepared and made by Information Technology Program students in collaboration with PIKTI-Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya. The program is created by using the VB.NET platform with a Microsoft Access database.
The electoral system is considered more efficient than direct selection by hand. The process of selecting with some 1422 voting rights in terms of the OSIS, IPNU-IPPNU and Scout Board of Shelves elections, only took 90 minutes. The elections which took place on Oct. 2 were started at 09.00 and finished at 10.30.
"It is faster and more efficient," Deputy Principal of MA Matholi'ul Anwar, Ahmad Fauzan said.
The E-Voting process is fairly easy and simple. Every student coming to a voting booth just enters their student registration number in accordance with their gender identity. If suitable, it will show the picture of chairman and vice chairman candidates of the OSIS, and IPNU-IPPNU on the computer.
"Each student is given a calling card that contains the registration number and gender (sex)". said one of the organizers, Mudzakir.
In the E-Voting system, there are ten voting booths. In each voting booth there is a computer connected to a server, which is connected by using a LAN (Local Area Netwrork)," said Fachri, the E-Voting application-making team leader.
Although in the morning there were no teaching and learning activities, there was such an active-implemetative learning process occurring in the school. Students were invited to implement the Citizenship Education about democracy. It was also part of the exercise of giving voting rights without being based on any tendency, especially money politics. This is a good schene supposed to be practiced by all citizens. Elections without money politics and are just based on conscience.
