Regional meeting of East Java provincial board of Nahdlatul Ulama held on July, 28-29 in Lirboyo Islamic boarding school (pesantren). This meeting had been success. As the center of Nahdliyin community with most dinamic activities, what happen in East Java is being concern by other regions of NU branch. East Java NU provincial branch is the most advanced and innovative areas. Other regions try to imitate their success to give services to the ummah and community.
Lirboyo is also one of the largest salaf pesantren, namely pesantren that its curriculum focused to study classical religious literatures. Many alumni of Lirboyo are being prominen religious leaders in their regions. Therefore, until now, the pesantren that located in Kediri region is still being favourite to study religious subject, especially for NUās community. Alumni and santri help the conference in order to be success.
We must appreciate the work of commities and NU followers that have contribute their donation, mind, and time for the organization. As social and community organization based, NU depends on voluntarism. Many people spare their time in the afternoon to the organization after finishing their daily job in their offices or home.
To give good services to, the management of organization must be advanced according to the latest technology. We must utilize and process quantitative data in the management of organization. Everything must be based on data, from planning to evaluating, assets management and others. Technology have given us an extraordinary easiness to manage the data. We can make an efficient system that can manage data from sub village branch (Ranting NU) to the central board of Nahdlatul Ulama in standardized model. By data, we can make standard for organization or individual evaluationĀ
Technology has given us to process and analyze big data to predict interest and behaviour or anticipate the future trend. Business, government, and community organization sectors have high interest to utilize big data technology. It has been used by technology company to share the advertisement according to the individual profile, give information of traffict jam in google map, and others.
For NU, we can utilize big data to know profile, characteristic, and choices of NUās followers in many aspects. Then, we can make policy according to its data more accurately. But, for the first step, we must collect about organization activities and resources. Its data must be updated regularly in order to be always accurate.Ā
For long time, we always dream to have NUās followers profile. A lot of initiatives have been held such as survey or collecting data from admission of NU membership card (Kartanu). But the result is not maximalĀ
Actually, the most urgent is how to know our asset and the growth of organization. We donāt have accurate data about total school we have, the total of student, the result of national examination, the student who is going to university, student potency, teacher profile, school facilities and infrastructures, financial capacity, and others. From the data, we can evaluate the performance of the head of Maāarif NU (departement of education of NU) more objectively.Ā
The accumulation of data from several aspects can be used to evaluate the performance of provincial branch, regional branch, or departements of NU. Periodical evaluation is used to take action for the commitee who has bad performance. It will make organization always in the good track. We can make performance indicator from individual level and organizational level in key performance indicator (KIP). By this indicator, we will know, whether the target is reached or not. Good system will make organization is being good. Bad system will make good people is being bad.Ā
If the data is collected consistenly for years, the information can be compared from one year to another. Then we would know the trend, whether our organization is advancing, decreasing, or stagnating trend. We can anticipate our needs in the future as well.
The standardized performance evaluation in national level will make its standard evaluated objectively. Until now, the report usually is given in descriptive model. Therefore, we canāt compare the performance from one periode to others. We can not compare it horisontally to branches as well. So it is difficult to compare among provincial branches or departements.Ā
The technology has been available in the market with affordable cost. NU have many cadres who are ready to design system and standard. But we must design cultural organization change. We used to report in desriptive and unstandarized model. To change it, we must train people to get used to in quantitative and standardized model.Ā
We can start in by making simple standard, then, little by little we can detail the standard more advanced. Another approach is we can start from a departement that has been ready such as educational departement. Then, other departement can learn from them. After that, the data integrated.
To reach the goal, we must have strong data team. It needs many costs but if success we will have accurate organization profile, make good policies, and make good organizational projection in the future. (Achmad Mukafi Niam)
