NU young cadre from Bogor Ahmad Zulfiqor confirmed that the values ​​of moderation and tolerance espoused by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Indonesia could be a reference in helping create world peace.<>
"The root causes of conflict in many countries are the lack of space for dialogue to accept differences. NU as the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia even in the world can be an example in realizing peace movement that is aspired by the entire nation," he said in the "International Youth Conference for Peace" held at the Gulf Convention Centre Manama Kingdom of Bahrain.
"In NU, such values as tawasuth (moderation), tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (harmony), i'tidal (consistency) will always be upheld and have become principles of the NU struggles, so not surprisngly if NU is widely known as an organization that is very moderate and greatly appreciates any possible difference," the former Chairman of the Bogor's Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association said.
In the four-day meeting (20-24 September 2013) initiated and facilitated by the Kingdom of Bahrain in collaboration with the United Nations, there were five main themes discussed such as Youth, Peace and Economic Development; Youth, Peace and Modern Technology; Peace and Social Justice, Peace and Sportsmanship, Peace and Experiments Made on Peaceworldwide.
The most highlighted at the conference was the issue of ' Arab Springs ' and the conflict between Palestine and Israel. In addition, the conference participants also showered criticism of the U.S. policies for often undertaking invasions in the Middle East and other regions in the name of peace missions which in essence are part of war and contrary to the mission of world peace.
The conference opened by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Bahrain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa was expected to become a means of having shared perceptions about the nature of peace universally to the youth around the world.
The conference also expected all the delegates to be capable of being ambassadors of peace and campaigning universal values in their respective countries.
Indonesia itself took part in this prestigious activity by sending two delegates of the country's largest Muslim organizations, Ahmad Zulfiqor (NU) and Beni Pramula (Muhammadiyah).
