Indonesia experiences shortage of teachers on Islamic studies

Indonesia is experiencing shortage of teachers on Islamic studies, especially in remote areas. Lacking of budget is considered as the main problem. <>
Currently, government through Ministry of Religious Affairs allocates 26 trillion IDR for teacher on Islamic studies. The figure is much lower compared to budget on education managed by Ministry of Education and Culture.
"But the shortage problem in Indonesia happen to teacher on Islamic subject and also on general subjects. We need more budget allocation for teachers," Deputy Secretary General of Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI), Tengku Zulkarnain said recently.
Teachers on religious subject in Indonesia are managed under Ministry of Religious Affairs. Zulkarnain said that government should increase budget allocation for teachers on religious.
He also admitted that many teachers were not willing to teach in remote areas and chose to work in cities instead.
