Diversity could be the nation's spirit and strength in materializing its ideals and objectives, Chairman of the Honorary Board of Nahdlatul Ulama Scholars Association (ISNU) Moh. Mahfud MD when giving a speech at the 28th Graduation Ceremony of the Surakarta's State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN).<>
"Indonesia is a country with a high degree of plurality, threats of conflict and hostility are very vulnerable," he said here on Saturday (12/4).
According to him, every person has rights, the fulfillment of the human rights are prone to possible conflict on account of the level of sensitivity and willingness of each person to tolerate differences.
In this regard, he added, the diversity became one of the nation's strengths in realizing social harmony and unity.
While the harmony could only be achieved when the rights of every citizen are met, and each group is free of all forms of discrimination and acts of intolerance. Therefore, in this respect pluralism and human rights are inseparable things in achieving the nation's ideals and objectives.
