NU applauds religious leaders’ roles during elections

Member of the Lawmaking Body of NU Jusuf Kalla said he greatly appreciated the roles of inter-religious leaders in efforts to encourage and maintain peaceful conditions during this year’s elections.<>
“Religious leaders have succeeded in teaching people about the importance of maintaining a peaceful democracy,” he said at a meeting held at the NU headquarters in Jakarta recently.
Religious leaders had helped maintain unity and security in the country, he added.
The meeting was also attended by General Chairman of NU KH Said Aqil Siraj and former first lady Sinta Nuriyah Wahid and several Cabinet ministers, namely Home Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, and Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
