Jakarta, NU Online
Pagar Nusa, the martial arts wing of the country’s largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama, called on Democratic Party lawmaker Sutan Bhatoegana to make a public apology for what it called an ill-advised comment on the former chairman of the organization, KH Abdurrrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid.<>
The organization said that it would not be responsible if its members decided to target Sutan over his statement saying that Gus Dur was impeached from his position as president because he was corrupt.
“If Bhatoegana does not immediately withdraw his statement and make a public apology, we are worried that members of NU will be angry and we will not be able to control them,” secretary of Pagar Nusa Muchamad Nabil Haroen said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
In a talk show recently, Bhatoegana said that Gus Dur was impeached because he was implicated in a number of corruption scandals including “Bruneigate” and “Buloggate”.
Buloggate centered around the misuse of the disbursement of Rp 35 billion (US$3 million) from Yanatera — the State Logistics Agency’s employee welfare fund, allegedly withdrawn by a masseur and business associate of Gus Dur. In Bruneigate, Gus Dur was alleged to have received cash from the Brunei sultanate.
