The Central Board of the Islamic Boarding "pesantren" School Association of Nahduatul Ulama (RMINU) organized a study circle (halaqah) for pesantren leaders at Pesantren Al Hamid, Cilangkap, Cipayung, East Jakarta, 29-30 December 2012.<>
Through an invitation received by NU Online, Friday (28/12), the meeting will be followed by the pesantren leaders and representatives from some 40 pesantren in Java.
In addition, it will also be attended by the Chairman of the RMINU KH Amin Haidari, Chairman of NU M. Imam Aziz, Deputy Secretary General of NU Imdadur Rahmat, and a number of officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
In the the halaqah discussing the theme "Strengthening the Role of Pesanten as Center of Civilization", participants will map out the pesantren potential, especially in terms of its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
The purposeful forum will also formulate strategies in strengthening management and cooperation across sectors, as well as formulating any action aimed at strengthening pesantren as the center of civilization.
In collaboration with the Directorate General of Religious Education and Pesantren, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, RMI is determined to restore the function of pesantren as the agent of change as that carried out by the pesantren predecessors.
"Pesantren is not only a religious institution, but also a social institution that espouses public functions for the surrounding communities."
