Yogyakarta's LAZISNU provides scholarships to students

The Zakat, Infaq and Shadaqah Collection Agency of Nahdlatul Ulama (LAZISNU) of Yogyakarta offered scholarships to low-income and outstanding students studying at Nahdlatul Ulama Elementary School (SDNU) Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday (9/10).<>

The scholarship ceremony held at the school's hall was attended by chairman of the Yogyakarta's LAZISNU H Sahroini Djamil, Operations Manager of LAZISNU Mamba'ul Bahri, Principal of SDNU Muhyi Darmaji, and parents of the would-be scholarship recepients.

"This grant is part of our attention to the SDNU because it is under the supervision of the Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU). Whatever program run by the PWNU, LAZISNU is prepared to support," Mamba'ul Bahri said.

"We call a student from each class, ranging from first to fifth class as a representative," Darmaji said, adding the scholarships were in the form of money amounted to Rp 5 million for 20 students.

According to Darmaji, such assistance will be coordinated by the treasurer of SDNU and used for the needs of students in dealing with the process of education.

"That, among others, is used to buy some books, transportation, consumption for students who stay here and so forth," he added.

Bahri hoped any program run by LAZISNU would bring benefits to the people, especially the Nahdliyin (NU followers).
