Venezuela President Hugo Chavez has a popular support of 79.6 percent, according to a survey published Sunday, while the opposition has not yet defined positions for the December 3 presidential election.
A study by Seijas pollsters Jun 28 and published today by the local press, grants Chavez a 79.6 percent support, compared to 77.2 percent received last week.
Participants who rejected his administration were 19.9 percent compared to 22 percent seven days ago.
Several opposition pre-candidates met Saturday with members of the organization Sumate, financed by the United States, to convince its leaders of organizing primary elections and elect a single candidate.
None of the better three candidates attended the gathering, although according to social-democrat Sergio Calderon, two of them will participate.
Calderon stated there is a 90 percent confidence in the election process and that an opposition contender will win next August 13.
The current political crossroads is not a mechanism for the election of a single candidate and keeps on being an alternative to face the polls' decision or defect.
According to the last change, it would concern declassifying electoral organizations to allege a lack of conditions and remove opposition candidates, as they did during the December 2005 parliamentary polls. (pl/dar)
