Developing links and dialogues between Moslems in the UK and Indonesia

The government of Indonesia and the United Kingdom (UK) has established such a group called as Indonesia-UK Islamic Advisory Group (IAG). It was deliberately formed following the meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Prime Minister Tony Blair in March this year.
The IAG is aimed at producing and delivering joint practical recommendation to the UK and Indonesian government on how to do best to counter religious extremist and promote better understanding between Islam and the West.
“We (Indonesia and UK) need to develop links and dialogues between Moslems in the UK and Indonesia,” he told NU Online on Wednesday.
Formerly, the first Video Television Conference (VTC) on the IAG was conducted on 8 December 2006. It took place at the British Embassy in Jakarta and Foreign Commonwealth Office in London.
Indonesian delegation was represented by Prof Dr Azyumardi Azra and Mr Abdul Mu’thi, accompanied by Director for Public Diplomacy of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry and British Ambassador to Indonesia.
While the UK’s delegation was represented by Mr Musharraf Hussain, Mr Shakh Muhammad Bilal Abdallah, accompanied by representatives of Foreign Commonwealth Office and Indonesian Embassy in Jakarta. (dar)
