Former General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama, KH Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid urged Indonesia’s government on Sunday (17/9) not to receive any loan from international financial institutions such as International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB).
The leader of the Islamic Boarding “Pesantren” School of Ciganjur suggested that with its entirely natural and human resources, Indonesia should have been capable of developing the country with its own national agenda including infrastructure developments.
The 4th Indonesian Former President warned the government not to depend on the IMF and WB soft loans. “We should not depend on the loans that have been so far given by the IMF and World Bank,” Gus Dur said.
Dealing with the country’s multidimensional crisis such as political, economic, social and ecological, Gus Dur expected the government to overcome the ongoing crises without relying on the assistance of the IMF and WB. (rif)
