General Chairman of the country's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Hasyim Muzadi received on Saturday (2/12) an honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in the field of Islamic civilization from Sunan Ampel State Islamic institute in Surabaya.
Rector Ridlwan Nasir said that Hasyim deserved the degree for his contribution to the science of Islamic civilization, which had been recognized both at home and overseas.
<>At the ceremony, Hasyim gave a lecture on what Islam could contribute to world justice and civilization. He said that Muslims should improve their image to erase Islamophobia, especially in the West."For the West, Islam is always considered from its adherents' behavior and attitude acting violance," said Hasyim, adding that Islam should be viewed from its teachings and it is a peace-loving religion.
