Hasyim to open worksop for pesantren-based drug prevention

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi opened Thursday an orienting/planning workshop for pesantren-based drug prevention program in Indonesia.

He said that in the beloved country of ours the drug abuse had recently increased among people especially young generation and other minors. Deeply concerned about this he collaed on the government, mass organizations and related circles to immediately overcome the problem.

The three-day-forum started from 21 December this year would reportedly involve ten participants representing Islamic boarding schools across Jakarta such as Pesantren Al Muhajirin, Nurudh Dholam, Azziyadah, Darunnajah, Al Hamidiyah, Asshidiqiyah, Yapink, Al Munawwar, Al Ashriyyah Nurul Iman and Avicenna PBNU.

The conference funded by the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, US Department of State.was the result of a collaborative effort between the country’s largest Muslim organization (NU), Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP), National Narcotics Board of the Republic of Indonesia.

At the same time the Chairman of PBNU for Foreign Affairs HM Rozy Munir said in a written press release that there were several points that would be discussed in the workshop, namely Islamic perspective on drug, pesantren’s role in preventing drug abuse, and drug-related isues in Indonesia.

“Moreover, Indonesia has not only served as an international drug orbit, but it has also become a place for both producers and consumers,” he said. (dar)
