The House of Representatives (DPR) leadership has urged the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to adopt a stand and take a firm decision on the regular airing of a program titled "Smack Down" by a private TV station because actions in the show were being emulated by children with some of them already suffering harmful consequences.
As reported by the national news agency Antara, the House leadership comprising House Speaker Agung Laksono and Vice Speaker Zainal Maarif addressed the request to the KPI on Tueday (28/11) without elaborating on the victims’ fate.
Zainal said the mission of TV stations was not only to provide entertainment but also to educate the public. "Therefore, in providing entertainment TV stations should also pay attention to the educational aspects of their programs," he said. (dar)
