Russian Duma Vice-Speaker Lyubov Sliska has recently said that Iran poses no missile threat to any other country, it was reported on Wednesday by Irna news agency.
Sliska made the remarks in a meeting with the members of Western Europe Union.<>
The union is an association of 10 countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, portugal, Spain and Britain) and operates as a forum for the coordination of matters of European security and defense.
He said according to US expert assessment, Iran is yet 10 years from making any missile which would require a missile shield.
The MP stressed that Moscow did not oppose the idea of making a collective defense system for Europe and for that reason Russia is currently constructing a new radar station in the city of Armavir in southern Russia, Sliska added.
US aims to make a missile shield system in Poland and the Republic of Czech under the pretext that Iran was a missile threat against Europe while Russia strongly opposes the idea.
Moscow believes that Iran is no threat to Europe and that the real objective behind establishing a missile shield system in Europe by the US is to surround Russia and check its strategic power. (dar)
