LPKNU to promote pesantren-based disaster alert

Repeatedly disasters striking regions in Indonesia have absolutely claimed thousands of lives like in Aceh, Pangandaran, Yogyakarta, and so on. The huge scores of the victims were at least caused by uncertainty of the people to anticipate the possibility of the disasters.
Brilliant efforts to face the disasters should be undertaken by all circles such as govt, private, and society. Nahdlatul Ulama Healthcare Institution (LPKNU) chief, Dr Syahrizal Syarif said on Wednesday that people or community has important role in anticipating and handling the possibly disasters.
At the same time, chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama HM Rozy Munir suggested that pesantren with its wide network throughout Indonesia may be considered as an important capital to help people handle disasters.
While, the ITB’s Deputy Rector for education affairs, Dr Ir Widyo Nugroho said that Indonesia’s natural environment condition is considered as vulnerable region. (mkf)
