NU LAZIZ-Telkomsel to reconstruct pesantren in Nias

Following its successful in reconstructing Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Aceh, the country’s largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) through its Committee of Zakat, Infaq, and Shadaqah (NU LAZIZ) in collaboration with PT Telkomsel would take the same actions in Nias, North Sumatra.
“We (NU LAZIZ, red) have four programs, namely education, health, economy, and social. Telkomsel would take part in supporting one of our four programs that is reconstructing Islamic boarding school-based education in Nias,” the NU Laziz secretary, Mabroer MS told NU Online at the NU office, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/12).
<>According to Mabroer, the pesantren would be purposefully built on two hectares of land in Gamu, Mo’awu, Gunung Sitoli District. First, LAZIZ would reconstruct a musholla, a public place for performance of religious duties in the beginning of January next year.“In this case, Telkomsel has provided money amounted to Rp250 million. Next, it would be followed by other physical reconstructions,” he said.
Mabroer explained that the reconstruction was aimed at introducing the existence of the nahdliyin-based religious organization in the region that was ever hit by quake last March 2005. more over, Muslims and NU followers living in the region were minorities. (rif)
