The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) will concuct a second International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS II) on 20-22 June 2006 in Jakarta.
The ICIS II will be attended by 300 participants representing Islamic communities, Islamic scholars, universities, and other dignitaries from both national and international organizations.
<>With the larger attendance expected, the ICIS II aimed at reinforcing the outcome of the first ICIS on "Upholding Islam as Rahmatan Lil Alamin.“ It is expected that the outcome of the ICIS II will contribute to the agenda of the "Millenium developments goals.“
The theme of the ICIC II is that Upholding Islam as Rahmatan Lil Alamin Toward Juctice and Peace.
Dealing with the objectives, the ICIS II will attempt to concretize the role of religion and to formulate the values of Islam as Rahmatan Lil Alamin to the spirit of social movement for change from global paradox toward global justice and peace.
The specific objectives are at least focused on strengthening true religious understanding, moderate, and peace religiousity and formulating strategy for civic movement to avoid global destruction toward quality and sustainable life. (dar)
